Manchester Chiropractic Nutrition Plan for Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis

Nutrition. Good nutrition is a good foundation for a healthy body. In our Manchester chiropractic practice, we see conditions like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis that develop over time. Their potential prevention and treatment are foundationally rooted in early-life nutrition practices that are maintained and/or improved upon throughout life. Manchester Chiropractic & Sports Injuries shares new research on the significance of vitamins A, C and D along with glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for bones and joints and overall health.

HEALTHY CELLS, CARTILAGE, & BONE PREVENT DISEASES LIKE OSTEOPOROSIS & OSTEOARTHRITIS

Optimal nutrition status protects the body and keeps it strong and healthy. Research has shown the advantages of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in slowing osteoarthritis of the knee. Researchers now want to explore how nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and other natural components in a normal diet may help. (1) Optimal bone and cartilage metabolism heads off issues like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) regulates bone and cartilage metabolism at the cellular level – even into the nucleus of the cell – of osteoblasts and chondrocytes. (2) The metabolism of articular cartilage relies on chondroprotectors (CPs) that contribute to the regeneration of cartilage surfaces and joint capsules. In osteoarthritis and low back pain, loss of chondroitin sulfate and hyaline cartilage is noted. Some approaches to remedy this situation involved injections of CPs. (3) Other methods included oral supplementation as diet is not often a basis for these CPs. Oral supplementation is also a preferred way to boost vitamin D levels as low levels of vitamin D are understood to be contributors  to conditions like osteoporosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancer types, and overweight/obese status. Vitamin D is key, but its natural sources like fatty fish and eggs are not usually part of most people’s daily diets. In Spain, at least 50% of the population is deficient in vitamin D. Researchers recommended that Spain find a way to encourage people to eat eggs to fight the vitamin D deficiency and fend off future diseases. (4) It is especially important for those who have a combination of issues - osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency and high fracture/fall risk – to keep up their supplementation of vitamin D. (5) Feeding yourself goes so far beyond just feeding your stomach and pleasing your cravings! The food you eat and the supplements you take keep your body functioning, healthy and strong.
