Manchester Knee Osteoarthritis and Quality of Life with a Mediterranean Diet

What do creaky, noisy, cracking knees and olive oil, fruits, veggies and red wine have in common? Knee osteoarthritis! Manchester knee pain sufferers undergo the morning routine with “bad” knees, the stiffness and pain that is part of waking up and moving. Manchester Chiropractic & Sports Injuries hears our Manchester chiropractic patients describe this all the time. Those Manchester knee pain sufferers would appreciate getting some relief. What is one approach? The Mediterranean diet that involves, of all things, eating. Manchester Chiropractic & Sports Injuries asks “How bad can eating be for Manchester knee pain relief?”

Manchester OSTEOARTHRITIS SUFFERERS AND THEIR PAIN

Manchester knee osteoarthritis is ordinary. There are numerous Manchester knee pain sufferers. They’re not alone! 240 million people around the globe endure osteoarthritis. That affects about 10% of men and 18% of women. (1) Any Manchester knee osteoarthritis sufferer can describe the knee pain, the morning stiffness, and the creaky joint motion that lessens the enjoyment of daily life. (1) It’s just not very fun. Now a Mediterranean diet could be some fun though!

WHAT TO EAT ON A MEDITERRANEAN DIET

The Mediterranean diet includes eating lots of fruits and vegetable, legumes and nuts, cereals and seeds, seafood and fish. Eating a Mediterranean diet can be very tasty and exciting for a new Mediterranean diet follower.

BENEFITS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET

Knee osteoarthritis involves inflammation in addition to pain. A review of 3 research reports points out that biomarkers of inflammation and cartilage degradation due to osteoarthritis decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (1) Specifically, the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1α decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (2) Knee osteoarthritis patients who better followed a Mediterranean diet show a lessened risk of deteriorating knee pain at four years follow up.
